Final Song Choice

The Final Song choice that has been approved is SuperNatural by Daughtry, the answers below are based on questions about the video i will create for the chosen song...

1. The target audience will be made up of 2 groups in particular, males who have a certain sympathy for the character in the music video or who feel some sort of connection with the themes in the music and females who will be more concerned about the artist than the song. Because of this there will be a lot of shots where the artist is the central figure and USP of the video. Both genders will be focussed on an age range of late teens to young adults.
2. The genre is slightly difficult to place because it’s not rock music in the traditional sense as it contains themes of love and is heavily influenced by the vocals as well as the instruments. I’d place it as pop-rock because it falls somewhere on the divide between them 2 traditional genres and the way the artist is being portrayed, there are obvious pop references.
3. The conventions in this type of video are fairly wide because I have a lot to play with from both pop and rock genres. The change of costume associated with pop videos will be incorporated as well as the focus on the artist. The mix between narrative and performance is also a tradition of this type of music video.
4. As I said in the last answer my video will be a mix of performance based and narrative based footage. This will include the story of the song being told by 2 characters, 1 of which will be played by the artist, and shot of the artist singing along with the lyrics whilst still portraying the emotions of the song.
5. The two characters in the video are interesting ones. A more detailed introduction to them can be found separate to this post, but in brief, the male character is in love with the female one and is trying to communicate his frustrations to her whilst she seems to remain oblivious to his existence. This is where the ‘supernatural’ reference fits in because it’s not because she is ignoring him or self obsessed in any way, the 2 just don’t seem to be able to interact.
6. The Video will be filmed in several locations which are still being finalised at this stage. What has been finalised though is both café and park scenes will be filmed in Lake Meadow, Billericay and the train scenes will be filmed on the national express train to Liverpool Street. As well as this some footage will be filmed in London, Trafalgar Square in particular being perfect for one particular scene.
7. Media Institutions like TMF and 4Music who aim to show a variety of genres and styles will be the perfect home for the video. Because they have a varying and almost exponential target audience, the video will be able to reach its own through them. They also have shows dedicated to the charts and the aim would be to have this involved in them.
8. Most things are affected by the technology of the time and media technologies are important for the video and its distribution to the target audience. The Internet will be a huge part of the distribution as the Artist will have their own website and this will be a key part of the advertisement to the video. Slightly older ‘technologies’ such as the music channels are still popular and the channels mentioned in question 7 will be important for the video reaching its television audience. Finally though YouTube is something that can be used by artist regardless of arguments that remain ongoing. If the artist chooses to have its own YouTube channel this is a very clever way to spread the word about a video.
