The Britney Experience

As the preliminary task in the build up to our music videos as a class we took part in the recreation of Britney Spears’ video, Hit Me Baby One More Time. This allowed us a quick insight into the work and planning required to make our final music videos of a high standard. We were split into groups of about 3 and given individual sections of the video to shoot.

1. The things i learnt from the experience are wide ranging from the planning process to the filming itself. It helped to put the amount of detail into context because costumes and props have to be prearranged and double checked. All shots have to be planned in detail and the length has to fit down to the second and if there are performance scenes in the video, the singing has to be able to match the music.

2. The best bit of the Britney video for me was watching all of the other groups working round the issues and problems in a different ways and seeing the filming take place. Some of the scenes were hilarious including one of the shots i was asked to be in. The most useful bit was also the filming because it gave me a clue as to the patience that I might need when filming my own video because it’s hard to act what somebody else is thinking and it’s equally as difficult not to burst out laughing all the time.

3. I think the work in this preliminary task has opened my eyes to the amount of work that will have to be done in my own video and has also shown that team work is an important part of the success of the group. This will certainly be something that I remember when considering everything during the planning stage of my own video, and to look at one area in detail I have learnt something remembering… I will attempt to video each scene on at least 2 occasions in a bid to reduce the chance of having to go out and re-film anything.
